Enriching our Soil

Becky Willson from an organisation called Farm Carbon Cutting Toolkit came to see us yesterday. We are one of twenty farms in the country taking part in the Carbon Farming project, aimed at helping growers to build soil health by better understanding its links to soil organic matter and carbon content. Becky took the first samples to give us baseline measurements for soils we are aiming to improve on a continuous basis. For example, our new organic agroforestry orchard will benefit from innovative techniques using mulches, composts and green manures to get more organic carbon into the soil and grow even tastier produce.

Apple juice

We have lots of apple juice available every week. Why not place a regular order: a 750 ml bottle is £3.30.

No single-use plastic with your fruit and veg

As you know, the bulk of our produce is delivered loose in wooden crates and cardboard boxes that get re-used as much as possible until they fall apart. They are then sent for recycling. The only plastic packaging we use is polythene bags for salad leaves and other leafy greens to keep them fresh. Our plan now is to leave the bags unsealed and unlabelled so they can be re-used more easily. We can also supply your leafy greens in paper bags or with no packaging at all, which might work if you put them in a container and refrigerate them on delivery. Do let us know if you have any preferences. We are always open to suggestions on how best to tackle the packaging problem so tell us if there is something else we can do.

We're still giving most of our greens a rest!

Our own produce needs to rest for a month or two so you might find your favourites are off the menu for now. However, our new season pak choi is ready and looking good. Great in stir fries or even chopped up raw in salads, it's a tasty and healthy addition to our late winter produce. Let us know if you would like to have some in your box.

UK vegetables available now:

Pak choi, leeks, swedes, parsnips, beetroot, red onions, white onions, various squashes, red cabbages, white cabbages and green cabbages, potatoes, carrots and mushrooms.

Bonus offers to add to your regular order

GENERAL BONUS BAG: Choose any item we supply (fruit or veg) and as long as supplies allow, we’ll bring you a bag of it weighing more than you would normally get for the price. £2 a bag. As long as we have the produce, you can have as many General Bonus Bags as you like.
